Twilight's Kiss | A Bittersweet Love Story

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Twilight’s Kiss is a subtle romantic film that is sure to leave any viewer reaching for tissues. Although the story does tug on heartstrings, it does so in a genuine and realistic manner that treats the characters respectfully rather than sensationalizing their pain for impact. Director Ray Yeung doesn’t rely on hard hitting emotional manipulation to get his point across. He executes his film with the confidence of someone who knows their story and characters are compelling enough to leave a mark.

The romance between Pak (Tai-Bo) and Hoi (Ben Yuen) is about so much more than the romantic love between two partners. Their relationship is limited by societal pressures but also by their commitments to their families. Each man’s struggle between their own wants and the need for family harmony creates a bittersweet foundation for the film, ensuring no ending could possibly be a happy one.
