The Photograph | The Perfect Winter Movie

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

Stella Meghie’s fourth feature film, The Photograph, is the perfect embodiment of a slow-burn romance. Using a split-timeline technique, the film follows the romance between Christina and Isaac (Chanté Adams and Y'lan Noel) in the 1980s alongside Mae — Christina’s daughter — and Mike (Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield) in present day. The film weaves motifs of photography with family as Mae learns how to open up and take risks despite the pain her mother has caused her.

If you’re looking for the perfect film to watch while drinking a glass of wine while curled up next to a fire, then look no further! The performances, cinematography, and costumes are all deserving of gold stars in what is easily one of 2020s best romantic films.
