When this film finished and the logo for Emily Carr University popped up, we were floored. We could not believe this was a student project. It’s not that students can’t create amazing work; it’s that this film is at such a high professional level of execution that we couldn’t believe it hadn’t been made by an entire team of animators.
The Hidden River of My Life weaves in and out of various magically mesmerizing settings, including a few live action scenes, as we journey across the history of humanity and life. Each scene flows so well together that it’s easy to get lost in the visuals and finish the film without realizing that four minutes have passed.
Director Kate Woodward is not only talented as an animator. Her website includes a portfolio of paintings that are so realistic, they could be photos put through painting filters. Her work is undeniably fantastic in its exploration of humanity, realism, and the places we may one day go.
